Pottering & Potting

Today was the first truly warm day this year, hot even! I just spent several very pleasant hours pottering in the garden, potting out the seeds I started a few weeks ago.

Tomato Plant

I added some tomato seeds a few weeks ago and they sprouted and grew so much quicker than all the others, it was crazy!

So I’ve moved them outside into pots of their own. It’s the first time I’ve ever tried to grow tomatoes so it’ll be interesting to see how well they do. I figured the weather is warm enough outside for them now but I think they’ll need watering more than once a week, which is how often I go out there at the moment :S

I also potted out all the other seeds – the Basil, Lavender and Rosemary – and started some new ones straight outside for Parsley and Thyme, since I managed to kill the plants I already had through neglect. Oops!

Apparently it’s possible to grow an Avocado tree from a commercially-produced pit that you get from a regular supermarket, so I decided to give that a go as well. We bought an organic Avocado and sliced off the flesh carefully to avoid damaging the seed. You’re supposed to use 3 or 4 cocktail sticks but I could only find 2 but it seems to be working fine so far! Hopefully one day I will have a whole tree.
